Amy Walen (D) for State Senate

IN OLYMPIA, AMY WALEN STANDS OUT
... AND STANDS UP.

Being a voice for commonsense isn’t easy in politics. Amy Walen doesn’t take the easy votes — she takes the right ones. She’s stood firm against extremists, pushed for fiscal responsibility, and fought for the Eastside even when it meant breaking from the crowd.

Standing Up to Right-Wing Extremism

While Trump and his allies attack immigrants, Amy takes action. She wrote legislation (HB 1889, 2024) so DREAMers — young people who grew up here — could continue working and contributing to Washington’s economy.

She’s also worked to reform Washington’s upside-down tax system, which unfairly burdens working families, and has consistently defended women, workers, and vulnerable neighbors from attacks coming out of D.C.

For Amy, it’s about protecting people and standing firm when extremists try to divide our community.

Standing Up When the Numbers Don’t Add Up

Amy doesn’t rubber-stamp unsustainable budgets. When the legislature passed a spending plan that relied on the largest tax increase in state history, she voted no — warning that Washington families would pay the price when federal Trump-era cuts hit. (2025, SB 5167)

Her opponent, Vandana Slatter, voted yes. Slatter backed a budget that left taxpayers on the hook, while Amy pushed for a more responsible approach that protected essential services without overburdening working people.

Putting Community Before Politics

Amy listens to the community and acts fast when policies aren’t working. In 2023, she helped pass legislation (SB 5352) to fix Washington’s deeply restrictive vehicle pursuit law after hearing from police chiefs, first responders, and residents who felt unsafe.

Slatter, by contrast, initially sided with the most far-left members of the caucus and resisted any change — even as evidence mounted that the law was putting public safety at risk. Only after sustained pressure did she shift her position.

Amy Walen (D) has built her career by doing what’s right for the Eastside, even when it’s not easy. She’s led as a mayor, a legislator, and a small business owner — and she’s proven she’ll keep putting people first in the State Senate.
